• To pay fee amount in cash, candidate should take with them the print out of challan generated online after the whole completion of Part-1 registration. Deposit the requisite fee in any particular branch of SBI and then continue with the process of Part-2 registration

• Those candidates who want to pay through the online process can go directly to part-2 registration after the whole completion of part-1 registration. Candidate must supply their registration number as well as date of birth in order to continue to Part-2 registration.

SSC CGL Exam Structure in Step by Step Process

The examination consists of several Tiers are conducted over different days according to the calendar provided with results posted after each Tier. Previous exams used to include a special interview tier, but after the government order, tough interviews have been dispensed off for all types of non-gazetted posts in the central government which started from 1 January 2016. A computer proficiency test process at the end was also added as a Tier for some posts. There are four types of major tiers for the 2018 exam.

Tier I: Preliminary (Prelims) Exam

The Tier I of SSC CGL exam consists of an objective multiple-choice exam with four different sections, covering the subjects of:

  • General Reasoning
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • English Comprehension
  • General Awareness

The exam puts primary focus on every subject with each of the subject has maximum 50 Marks per section for a total of 200 Marks at the end. The latest versions of this exam which is in the year 2018 have been conducted online at various centers throughout the country.

Based on results and success from Tier I, qualified candidates can then proceed to Tier II and Tier III exams.

Tier II: Mains Exam

Also known as the Mains Exam popularly, the Tier II exam consists of written objective type multiple-choice exam, which is been given by aspirants in four sections (also known as “Papers”), covering the subjects of:

  • Quantitative Aptitude/ Mathematics Ability
  • English Language and Comprehension
  • Statistics / Analytics
  • General Studies, which is further subdivided into:
    • Finance & Accounting
    • Economics & Governance.

The exam was typically scored with maximum of 200 Marks per section. Most of the positions required the candidate to take only the first two sections (Paper-I: Quantitative Aptitude and mathematical ability, Paper-II: English Language skill as well as Comprehension), but certain important positions require the third or fourth section according to the requirement of the position and demand of the post or vacancy. The latest versions of SSC CGL such as the 2018 edition have been conducted online at all centers of the country.

Tier III Exam: Descriptive Paper

A pen-and-paper “Offline” type of exam in which all the candidates are to present some writing skills in the form of essay writing as well as letter writing, and sometimes precise and deep level of application writing. The exam can be done in English or Hindi in which the candidate is comfortable.

Tier IV Exam: Technical/ Data Entry Test / Computer Proficiency Test

In 2016, a fourth tier was added with two types of possible exams depending on the positions to be applied

  • Data Entry Speed Test (DEST): Candidates have to enter data at the rate of 2000 key presses in time span of 15 minutes. This is mainly for important positions such as Tax Assistant (Central Excise department & Income Tax).
  • Computer Proficiency Test (CPT): Covering the various topics of Word Processing, Spreadsheets and ability of making slides.
