Overview – SBI PO (Probationary Officer) 2019 Exam

Every year more than 20 lac candidates appear in the SBI Bank Probationary Officer Examination. SBI Bank entrance exam is considered bit difficult compared to the bank entrance exams conducted by IBPS. SBI Po exam is conducted under 3 stages namely: Prelims, Mains and Interview/Group Discussion. SBI PO recruitment exam is the most premier exam among the public-sector bank exams in India.

State Bank of India has released on 1st April 2019 its official notification for the recruitment of 2000 vacancies for SBI Probationary Officers in SBI Bank branches all over the country. The recruitment process for SBI PO will start just after the release of official notification. This exam is conducted for selection of candidates to the post of Probationary Officers in State Bank of India and its Associate banks in India.

Interested candidates can register online for the SBI PO recruitment process. The exam process consists of Preliminary and Mains exam which are conducted online followed by Interview. Candidate must clear each exam to get shortlisted and progress to the next stage.

Details for SBI PO Examination 2019 Application Fee

Application Fee for SBI – PO Recruitment 2019
For GEN/ OBC 750/- (App. Fee including Intimation Charges)
For SC/ ST/ PWD 125/- (Intimation Charges Only)

Eligibility Criteria for SBI PO Exam 2019

Candidates who wish to appear in SBI PO Examination 2019 must check for eligibility criteria given below:

1. Graduation Degree

Candidate must have Graduation Degree in any of the discipline from the recognised University by the govt. of India or by Central Govt. of India-

  • BA
  • B.Com
  • BSc
  • B.Tech
2. Valid Marksheet

At the time of registration for SBI PO, a valid marksheet must be there for support. Percentage of marks obtained in Graduation should be mentioned during registration.

3. Computer Literacy

Practical Knowlegde of Computer is must.

4. Language Proficiency

Candidate must be proficient on Written and Verbal language of the State/UT. He or She must be able to read, write and speak the language.

Nationality/ Citizenship
A candidate applying for SBI PO Examination must fulfil the following:

  • A citizen of India or
  • A subject of Nepal and Bhutan
  • A Tibetan Refugee who came to India for permanent settlement before 1st January 1962
  • Person of Indian Origin who migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, or East African countries of Kenya, Zambia, Zaire, Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi and Tanzania with the intension of permanent settlement in India.

Candidates belonging to the categories (ii), (iii), (iv) & (v) from above shall be person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the government of India.

The SBI PO has given certain age limit relaxation for various categories, which are as follows:

Exam Pattern for SBI PO 2019

The SBI PO exam will be held in three phases– Preliminary and Mains and Interview. The candidates must qualify each of them to go on to the final selection. The details are given below:

SBI PO Exam Pattern 2019 for Preliminary Exams

The SBI PO Preliminary exams duration is of 1 hour consisting 3 sections having 100 questions in total with a maximum score of 100 marks. It is to be noted that a negative marking of 0.25 marks are deducted for every wrong answer. Candidate must achieve the sectional cut off to qualify for SBI PO Mains Exam.

SBI PO Exam Pattern 2019 for Mains Exams

SBI PO exam paper will consist of both Objective Test questions of 3 hours in 4 sections of 200 marks and Descriptive Test of 30 minutes for 50 marks. Candidates have to write Descriptive test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay) by securing passing marks to be decided by the bank.

SBI PO Interview Process 2019

Besides the Preliminary exam and Mains exam, an interview process is also conducted for candidates qualified for two phases of SBI Probationary Officer Examination for final selection. The final merit list is prepared on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate in the mains exam and Interview process.

Candidates, who qualify SBI PO Main, appear for the Group Exercise and Personal Interviews Rounds. Marks distribution for Group Excersice round is 20 and Personal Interview round are 30.

The candidates should keep in mind the following points related to the SBI PO Selection process:

  • Biometric Verification: Candidates may ask for giving their digital thumb impressionfor an error free and secure selection procedure for SBI PO 2019. Through this procedure the genuineness of the candidate can be judged properly.  Any inconsistency on the biometric verification will lead to rejection of the candidature and the punitive legal actions. Therefore, it is advised to candidates to not to apply any kind of external matter like ink, mehandi, chemical etc. on their hands during examination.
  • Number of Attempts: The candidate can appear in the exams depending upon the number of chances fixed for every category by the Bank. However, candidate can appear in the Preliminary exams as many times, but appearing in Mains exam is counted.
