What is UGC NET and JRF?

UGC NET stands for University Commission National Eligibility Test which is among top national level exam which is conducted to select candidates for the posts of Assistant Professors or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in top Indian universities as well as colleges. The exam is been conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) which is been established by the government of India as a top premier and autonomous type of organization in order to conduct entrance exam for higher educational institutions for admission and fellowship program. The NTA has been given the responsibility to conduct top examinations like UGC NET, NEET, JEE Mains and CMAT.

Eligibility Criteria for UGC NET 2020

The candidates who are looking forward to appear in the examination should meet the exam’s eligibility criteria. The basic criteria for the exams are:

  • During the post-graduation, candidates must secure at least 55 percent marks
  • In order to be eligible for the JRF, the student should not be more than 30 years in age
  • There is no such age restriction for the post of Assistant Professor
  • A relaxation in 5 percent is been given to candidates in reserved category
  • A relaxation of 5 years in age criteria is been given to candidates in reserved category

UGC NET Selection ProcessExam Pitara

The process of the examination occur in following steps:

Application Form: The first process is to fill the application form which is available on the online mode on the official website of the exam

Admit Card: When the candidate has applied successfully for the exam, then he or she can download the Admit card by logging into the registered Accounts

Examination: The candidate need to appear for the exam which is a computer based test that consist of two papers that are Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both of the papers are of objective types and candidates need to complete the exam within duration of 3 hours.

Result: The result is declared on the official site of the UGC NET. The result contains the roll numbers of the candidates which are qualified for the Assistant Professor only or both JRF as well as Assistant Professor.

Exam Day Guidelines for the Candidates

NTA (National Testing Agency) has issued some advisory which state some proper guidelines for all the UGC NET 2020 aspirants.

What are the things allowed to carry on the Examination day?

The exam is totally computer based test and all the candidates are been provided a pen/pencil for rough work while solving the exam questions. However, all the students are still advised to carry their own pen and pencil in order to avoid the last minute hassle.

What are the things which are not allowed to carry on the Examination day?

While UGC allow to carry pen or pencil but there are things that are prohibited to carry inside the exam hall. The aspirant is not allowed to carry any kind of instrument, metallic item or electronic gadgets along with them. There can be a case, there might not be any type of provision for safe keeping of candidate’s valuables. Things which are not allowed to carry inside the exam hall are as follows:

Although Diabetic students are allowed to carry transparent bottle and eatables like sugar tablets or fruits. However, they can’t carry any packed food including candies or chocolates.

Documents required to carry at UGC NET Exam Centre

Candidates are required to carry following documents at UGC exam centre:

Admit Card: All the Candidates are required to carry a clear printout (colored printout on A4 size paper) of the downloaded admit card from NTA website.

Passport Size Photograph: All the candidates are need to carry one photograph which is same as uploaded on the application form which is pasted on the attendance sheet at examination centre.

ID Proof: The candidates are required to bring a valid photo ID proof such as PAN Card/ Voter ID card/ Aadhaar Card/ Ration Card/ Driving License to the Examination Centre.  

PwD Certificate: Candidates who are wishing to claim the relaxation under the category of PwD must carry their PwD certificate which is been issued by the competent authority.
